What’s the difference between FPC and rigid PCB?

FPC uses flexible polymer substrate (polyimide/PET) allowing bending and folding, while rigid PCB uses FR-4 fiberglass. FPC offers space-saving 3D packaging, weight reduction, and reliability in dynamic applications. However, rigid PCBs are generally more cost-effective for static applications.

Can FPC support high-speed signals like LVDS or MIPI?

Yes, we design FPC with controlled impedance (50Ω/100Ω differential pairs) for LVDS, MIPI, USB, HDMI and other high-speed protocols. We use stripline or microstrip structures with ground planes to maintain signal integrity up to multi-GHz frequencies.

What is the typical bend life of FPC?

Bend life depends on design: Static flex (one-time installation) handles unlimited cycles. Flex-to-install (occasional flexing) supports 100-1,000 cycles. Dynamic flex (continuous motion) with rolled-annealed copper and optimized design achieves 50,000-1,000,000+ cycles.

Can you mount components directly on FPC?

Absolutely. We provide SMT assembly for 0201 and larger components, Chip-on-Flex (COF) for IC dies, and wire bonding. We can also create rigid-flex designs combining rigid PCB areas for component mounting with flexible interconnects.

What are the minimum order quantities?

For prototypes, we accept orders from 5 pieces for evaluation. Standard production runs typically start at 100-500 pieces depending on complexity. For high-volume production, we offer competitive pricing for quantities of 10K+ pieces with dedicated production lines.

How long does FPC production take?
